We realize teens today are facing enormous challenges. It seems as though there’s never been a more difficult time to grow up. So many teens are dealing with issues relating to substance use/abuse. Many have begun to “experiment,” others already have serious addiction problems.Warning Signs for Parents
The following specific physical and behavioral signs of drug and alcohol use can help you determine whether your teen needs help in dealing with addiction.
- A change in sleeping patterns.
- Persistent runny nose, bloodshot eyes, coughing and wheezing.
- Slurred or agitated speech.
- Complaints from teachers.
- Increase in absences from school, and truancy.
- Diminishing academic performance.
- Secretive behavior.
- Changes in friends and peer groups.
- Lack of interest in personal appearance and hygiene.
- Increase in the amount of money borrowed, or missing money and valuables.
- Emotional instability, hyperactivity or hyper-aggression.
- Hostility
- Lying
- Missed curfews.
- Depressed, fatigued or sleepy
- History of substance abuse within the family, including nicotine.
If you recognize more than a few of these signs in your teen, please contact us today. But please remember, our program is voluntary—in order to be accepted, your teen must voluntarily participate.
Operation SafeHouse’s Substance Abuse Program helps teens address these issues in a safe and secure environment. It’s tailored specifically to the issues that are experienced as a result of drug and alcohol use/abuse. Teens are admitted to our Emergency Shelter Program in Thousand Palms and participate in the program just like every other client—but they get something extra. They get special attention to help them work through their substance abuse issues.
Some of the additional services teens in our Substance Abuse Program receive are:- Individualized assessment, case planning and counseling designed to address substance abuse issues.
- Weekly NA/AA meetings.
- Group therapy sessions where they get a chance to discuss their struggles with their peers.
- Family Counseling that helps their family learn to support their efforts toward recovery.
- Anger Management/Coping Skills Groups
- Recreation/Yoga/Relaxation
- Relapse Prevention
- Follow-Up/Aftercare/Referrals
Fees
Our Substance Abuse Program lasts up to 30 days and fees are based on a sliding scale. Your assessed fee includes the intensive program outlined in this brochure plus three meals a day and two snacks, shelter and most importantly, staff who are trained in helping teenagers deal with a wide range of issues. No one will be turned away due to lack of ability to pay.
